The Benjamin C. Korschot Scholarship
The Benjamin C. Korschot Scholarship is named in honor of a person who played a significant role in the advancement of the investment industry on a local, national and global basis. Mr. Korschot served as President of what is now the CFA Society St. Louis in 1968-69. He then served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Financial Analysts Federation (which later merged with the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts to form the Association for Investment Management and Research [AIMR] in 1990) in 1978-79, and he later was Chair of the Board of Governors of the Investment Company Institute from 1980-1982.
While Mr. Korschot was very active in the world of investments, he was a well-rounded individual. As an undergraduate at Purdue University, he was a walk-on member of the Purdue Men’s Basketball Team. He followed his undergraduate career serving in the United States Navy and later earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. He was very involved in his community as an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, a member of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri United Methodist Foundation.
The Benjamin C. Korschot Scholarship will be awarded to a student in their third year of undergraduate study or later (including graduate students) whose major is focused on the investment industry. In addition to exhibiting success in the classroom and a passion for investments, the recipient of this scholarship will also demonstrate leadership qualities and service to the community. The Scholarship Committee of the CFA Society Kansas City will select the scholarship recipient, and its decisions are final. Because the selection process involves the evaluation of information that differs from applicant to applicant, some subjectivity may enter the process. Every application, however, will be thoroughly evaluated based upon what has been submitted, and the committee will make every attempt to ensure that the fairest possible selection process is employed. No one shall be denied a scholarship on account of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, veteran status or handicap.
